This is my channel dedicated to model making, working in a shed, music and any other nonsense I can think of. But mainly it's about having fun...
As the editor of the ADH publication 'Model Airplane International' and previously the chief cook and bottle washer of Military In Scale, I've been lucky to be a professional author and model maker for over 20 years, so I hope that some of that experience will be apparent as you watch some of my videos! :)

SOME ANCIENT, MODELLING INSPIRATION...
Sometimes, ideas can come from a new kit release, sometimes from something a lot older. In this video I talk about my love of ancient magazines, even older kits and how they can come together, to light the fires under a brand-new project...

IS MONOGRAM'S MARAUDER, STILL WORTH BUILDING?
Переглядів 10 тис.3 місяці тому
With the imminent release of the ICM 1/48 B-26 Marauder, we thought we'd take a look at Monogram's 1977/78 release to see whether, in 2024, it's still worth building. It's simple, cheap to buy and accurate, but it's notorious construction may put a few modellers off. Are you up for a challenge? Update Your A-10!

Academy's 1/48 A-10C is a nicely-detailed kit, that suffers from some compromised details. The most important of those are the engine fans, these being too far forward to be realistic. Thankfully, Mini Craft Collection come to the rescue with a wonderful set of 3D printed parts. This video takes a look at their set for modellers keen to upgrade their Thunderbolt builds.

Miserable Audioqualität, dazu ein eher unverständliches Nuscheln. Für Menschen die Englisch nicht als Muttersprache haben leider kaum zu verstehen...
Just picked this stuff up today after getting back into model building after decades thanks for the tips
David R Lentz, Columbus, Ohio, USA I am trying to find on your channel the video(s) of your building this kit, though to no avail. After eight years, I would like to think you would have nigh a dozen new ones.
Tilt the parts let gravity help glue to flow away from moving parts that you dont want to glue
Yes, very much so.
Good video informative but it must agree with the other viewers. Always good to get to the point since us UA-camrs get impatient.😂😂😂 my question is you mentioned a silver paint in a jar and why did you not use that instead of taking it from an aerosol can? Tamaya also makes a more expensive paint called TS 83 with simulates an aluminum and have you seen that or tried it? I plan on painting my model and found your video. Very informative.
Another outstanding tip, from the old days. Master the basics, and you'll be come a master modeler too.
Outstanding, So simple, with out all the hoopla we find all over the modeling sites and facebook.
I just finished the Monogram kit. This ICM kit has many more parts and better detail. Looks like they handled the tail gunner position differently/better as well. The extras they throw in are nice, but no figures ?!? I enjoyed building the cockpit and top turret with figures in them. For that price I'd rather have crew figures than a poster/calendar. Good video. Thanks for sharing.
A cool kit a great model for its time...and a better price back then compared to income!!!!...its all we had!
Now I gotta build a B26.
Learned more fitting tricks in this video than from any others. 👍🏻
If you look at the back of the decal sheet, it should have a date they were printed to help with the kit issue date.
No Ford window on that nose?
How about a privateer nose and tail
Hi it’s great to see your back doing videos always enjoy your style of presenting I’m going to rewatch all your videos while I’m modelling always a great source of inspiration and encouragement keep up the great work thanks 👍
bomb bay doors look wrong
Hello mr. P.nice contest.thank u4sharing.keep it up and keep the faith.with best regards and sticky greetings from Brandenburg/germany.your fellow modellmate.christian.
I’ll definitely be following the progress of this project. I acquired one of these kits earlier this year, second hand, the box is a little rough and the decal sheet has gone AWOL, but all the parts are there and in excellent condition. Can’t wait to see what you can do with your Harrier.
There is just something about old kits that inspires us! My local hobby shop has an estate sale has and is offering a 1/48 monogram F-105G im tempted to go get it!
Looking forward to this one, Spence. I have a similar project in mind, but without the benefit of that magazine. In fact, I've procrastinated on it for years due to not really knowing how to tackle it!
Looking forward to the project ✌🏻🇨🇦✌🏻
Brings back memories of me getting the first one in 1974 through to the late eighties.I now wish I had kept all these magazines for reference material of earlier kits.Great to see you back on UA-cam, Spencer.Keep them coming!
Ah shoot that reminds me I need to go do the dishes. Thanks!
Loving your videos Spencer! So happy you've returned to UA-cam. This build should be amazing.
Well, I´m in. When do we start? xD
A very interesting video. Most enjoyable. Thank you.
Amazing trip down memory lane with that magazine Spencer! I remember seeing it for the first time in the early seventies as a small lad and it had a huge impact on me ,my first issue had a double build of the then new revell 32nd scale beaufigher on the cover ,happy days
Though it’s a old kit but I’ve seen model builders make it a stunner with little added..Good luck with the build.!
Good to see these vintage kits getting a new lease of life through your skills, Spence. This is going to be good.
Great video! I think any “moaners” or Tamiya fan-boys should read this stuff and thank all the gods that they have: - Tamiya thin glue - Sanding sticks - Acrylic paints - Affordable airbrush equipment - EBay - etc etc etc I remember modelling in the 70’s, having to use poly cement using a pin, brush painting Humbrol enamels, crappy and expensive modelling knives. I think that’s why so many of us old farts came back into the hobby.
And don’t forget cuts in finger tips
Spencer, how did the 2 seater harrier conversion end up
Spencer what a great video , really enjoying these you have done recently , respect to you
You have just made my 'Hero' list mate 🤣... that NMF one you did is amazing work...👍I am looking forwar to seeing this build
Kit looks really nice. No aircrew though.
Мечта...а не модель...в России больше 100 $ стоит.😢
Why not putting some weight into engine nacelles?
Great tips thanks! Just heading to the loft to find mine.
I think it's great that you're "bothering" to build this old kit despite there being a new version now available from ICM - you already had this kit so why not build it and building it doesn't preclude you from building the ICM one too.
Hi Spence. The rear turret clear parts Z6 and Z7 were easy to mask off with Parafilm M and a new scalpel blade loaded as it happened. No caffeine for 24 hours prior and no sex during the masking itself is particularly important to mention too. I guess most folks though will park theirs for kabuki pre-cuts to appear but Parafilm M worked seamlessly throughout on mine. As far as weight goes, the solution that would skin the tail sitter issue easily is to have white metal copies of the bomb aimer's floor F5 and the .50 cal feed boxes, chutes and nose turret mounting disc F6. I made a false bulkhead tub behind the IP (it's invisible in the finished model) and loaded it and A21 to the gunnels with lead shot and it jointly came to 30 grams - 25grams short. The boarding ladder is made slightly overlong by Airfix to prop up the back end - I notice the Airfix builds on their web site both have the ladder in play which may or may not indicate a weight shortfall. Painted and finished white metal copies of the parts I mentioned would be indistinguishable in finished models and would certainly tip the balance (see what I did there)... Anyway, as a plastic test pilot, I always much look forward to seeing everyones production kits being subsequently nailed together, their opinions and experiences and so on. Happily they're already queueing up on You Tube and else where, so happy days! Wish you well with yours. 🙂
Building and correcting older molding issues is part of the fun and skill building. Who wants to build many of these newer kits with no challenge? Not me, I like a challenge. Great progress on this vintage beautiful B26.
Love the tip on removing the upper roof of the bomb bay first. I would have liked to have seen how you tackled the fit of the air intakes to the cowling.
That looks to be a great build it would have to be one of the ' sports cars ' of US WWII bombers, looking forward to the next update, best regards from a Kiwi living in Australia
At 13:21: one thing I do on my models is stick down the upper half of the wing to a sheet of glass using double-stick tape, then cement the other half in place. Let the glue set, then remove from the glass. That ensures the flat and straight wing that is needed. Before taking up that method I had a few "banana" wings that were a beeyotch to straighten out.
On the issue of the strength of the nose gear, it’s the main gear you have to worry about. If the model is exactly balanced there is effectively no weight on the nose gear, it’s all on the mains. Also, you can cheat a bit on the balancing point by sanding flat spots on the main gear tires to represent the weight on them; it moves the pivot point backwards with respect to the C.G. It may move it only a fraction of an inch but that’s all you may need if the model is nearly balanced.
Love your videos Spencer. Did I see a gap on the underside where the nacelle meets the wing? Is that a normal seam line? Bill
Great progress. Slow and easy goes it.
Really good that Airfix do a wheels up choice for some of their models, including this B24...personally I think it looks much better in flight than on the ground
Good stuff Spencer - thanks for the updates!
Lead nose wheel casting would be nice.
